A Horse Tale: Amelia's Aha Moment - Hardcover
by Joanne Bott Anderson (Author)
Book 3 of Tales to Inspire series. The goal of this book is to help explain a human disorder, OCD, to children.
This colorful 30-page book is an inspiring read-aloud and early-reader picture book for ages 6-10. It is charmingly illustrated by the author for a granddaughter, and its main character is a filly with anxiety. Amelia is a young horse who lives with her herd in the mountainous West. She has what humans call OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder). She doesn't know that name however, she only knows she must do everything in a certain order or a certain way and if she misses, she must start again. It is becoming difficult for her to hide her problem. An encounter with a mountain lion pushes her past her fear of failing to touch her stream crossing rocks in a certain order. Suddenly she realizes nothing bad happened because of her miss. It is the beginning of her understanding how she can work her way past her problems. She becomes helpful to younger horses with difficulties and becomes a valued member of her herd.
The book includes 6 discussion questions using child-friendly language such as 'worry bully.'
